Challenge

Carbonplace, a forward-thinking financial startup, needed a comprehensive redesign to enhance its digital presence and streamline the user experience.

Launched in 2021, Carbonplace is an innovative financial startup dedicated to carbon offset trading and management, helping businesses and individuals reduce their environmental impact. As the Lead UI/UX Designer, I led the effort to redesign the platform, enhancing both its functionality and visual appeal. This overhaul included a more intuitive landing page, a dynamic carbon footprint dashboard, and a refreshed portfolio site—all crafted with user-centered design principles to ensure usability and engagement.

The objective was to create a seamless and accessible experience for users, making carbon offset trading both engaging and easy to navigate. In addition to improving core features, the redesign aimed to strengthen Carbonplace’s increasing tech integration, such as the carbon footprint tracker, account logins, and the trading platform itself, while also aligning with the company’s vision for a more sustainable future.

The challenge was to balance the platform’s complex functionality with an intuitive, visually engaging design, ensuring that businesses and individuals committed to sustainability could easily access and manage their carbon offset activities.

Goal

To reimagine Carbonplace’s digital experience by redesigning its landing page, carbon footprint dashboard, portfolio site, and overall brand presence.

The goal was to create a user-centered design that retained Carbonplace’s identity in the existing dark theme but transformed it into a lighter, more sophisticated version. This redesign aimed to elevate usability, strengthen brand cohesion, and build trust in Carbonplace’s mission. In addition, the platform’s growth and business implementation were supported by enhanced functionality, ensuring the design aligned with both user needs and the company’s evolving vision.

Result

The redesign significantly enhanced the user experience by transitioning the platform to a "Light" theme, creating a brighter, more engaging interface. This change not only boosted user interaction but also contributed to a more cohesive and consistent brand identity.

By applying refined user-centered design principles, I helped create a platform that fostered greater trust in Carbonplace’s mission. This was achieved by simplifying the primary color palette while introducing additional complementary colors for broader platform use. I carefully balanced color contrast and ratios to seamlessly integrate with the brand’s core color, ensuring visual consistency and accessibility. Additionally, I designed custom hand-crafted icons, developed new frameworks for widgets, and significantly enhanced the data visualization for the infographics. These improvements resulted in a stronger, more cohesive visual identity and reinforced Carbonplace’s commitment to enabling sustainable, data-driven decision-making.
